With each Exetel HSPA plan you also get the following additional facilities:
* These plans need an HSPA modem for them to operate. A prospective customer may already have such a modem in which case there is no activation fee for the service - Exetel will courier you the sim you need to place in the modem to access the Exetel service.
If you require Exetel to provide a modem then you can (on the order form) order a Huawei E1762 modem at a cost of $165.00 (including the sim and shipping) Or Huawei E160 modem at a cost of $95.00 - both options are on a zero month contract.
Data (both up and down) is charged per kilobyte and the monthly bill is rounded to the nearest megabyte.
Speeds achieved in any specific location will vary widely and the maximum theoretical speeds will seldom, if ever, be achieved
All prices include GST.
GB = 1,000 MegaBytes
MB = 1,000,000 Bytes
* If you want to make mobile calls via the HSPA SIM you must order an Exetel Mobile plan (WM A or WMB) - the HSPA IM plans are data and VoIP only.
Data (both up and down) is charged per kilobyte and the monthly bill is rounded to the nearest megabyte.

Exetel provides HSPA services using the Optus mobile network. Currently Optus, like other Australian mobile carriers, is continuously upgrading its mobile network to provide faster data speeds over ever larger percentages of Australia's population areas. The current maps of all parts of Australia can be found by viewing the Coverage Maps.
The current maximum theoretical speeds that could be achieved on the parts of the Optus network that have been provisioned with 3G are 7.2 mbps down. However, like many other forms of broadband, these speeds are dependent on many factors and it is not likely that any user will ever achieve download speeds much greater than 2 mbps - 2.5 mbps in a location with 'perfect' conditions. Recently, many Exetel/Optus HSPA users are experiencing speeds much higher than these, 4.5 mbps in North Sydney for instance, and these speeds will become more common and more widespread as Optus progressively upgrades the remainder of their network to 7.2 mbps down and over 1 mbps up.
Any decision to purchase this service should be based on a careful assessment of the coverage maps and the realisation that, currently, 1500 kbps down is likely to be the maximum speed obtainable from this service in optimum locations at its currently deployed technology level.
The Exetel HSPA service requires the use of an Exetel supplied 'SIM' plus a USB modem to connect the 'SIM' to the Optus/Exetel network. Exetel provides the 'SIM', and can provide the modem upon request (fees may apply - see above for details).

If
a prospective customer has a mobile telephone handset they wish to connect to the Exetel/Optus HSPA service,
and are confident in their technical abilities to ensure this works,
there is no need to use a USB device. Be aware that if you wish to make phone calls with your handset you must connect to the WMA or WMB plan.
Exetel's HSPA via Optus service is an ideal mobile data service that combines Optus' wide geographic coverage with Exetel's industry leading very low pay for what you use data rates. With no contract and no 'included usage' plans a person who needs access to the internet via their laptop in different geographic locations at the lowest possible cost will find it difficult to beat an Optus/Exetel HSPA service.
Exetel's HSPA via Optus service is an ideal replacement for a dial up internet service offering much higher speeds (subject to location) and, for people who download less than 1 gigabyte a month (practically all dial up users) Exetel’s HSPA service is almost certainly going to be lower cost than a current dial up service with the additional advantage of no dial up telephone call costs and, if required, no telephone line rental charge.
The major advantage of HSPA is that it requires no telephone line rental and a customer is charged, in Exetel's case, only for the actual data transmitted plus a small monthly service fee.
However, the downloads are expensive compared to Exetel's, and other ISPs ADSL plans at levels above 1 gigabyte a month of usage and therefore HSPA, at least at this time in its development is not suitable for people who want large downloads (it definitely is NOT suitable for people who use P2P) or who want to play low latency sensitive games.
The Exetel HSPA service is provided using the Optus Mobile data network . To ensure there is suitable coverage in the place(s) you intend to use this service and to do a preliminary check on whether your specific address can get an appropriate speed signal you should enter your street name and suburb and check on the map to see whether you should be able to get wireless using this facility:
The sim provided with the HSPA service is a ‘standard’ mobile telephone sim which if you use it with a ‘standard’ mobile handset you can make and receive mobile telephone voip calls and send and receive SMSs.
To be able to do this you must order an Exetel mobile telephone service at the time of ordering your HSPA service otherwise the ability to make mobile calls will be blocked (you will still be able to receive calls to your mobile telephone on the sim number and you will also be able to receive SMSs).
You can also have outbound mobile calls and SMSs blocked and use Exetel’s VoIP service to make calls by using either am easily downloadable Exetel appliation, or either Fring or Nimbuzz
By
using VoIP you will be able to make calls to Australian and
international destinations at a fraction of the cost of any
Australian mobile plan and even make calls to other Exetel/Fring/Nimbuzz users at no
charge (other than the bandwidth needed for the call). Fring and Nimbuzz can also be used for messages and calls to Skype, plus messages to MSN/Live Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, AIM, Google Talk, ICQ and Twitter.

A "DID" (Direct In Dial) number is a valid PSTN dial number that is in the same format as a standard wire line number and allows calls from standard telephones to be made to your VoIP number . Currently local numbers are available for all the major capitals: Newcastle, Penrith, Wollongong, Geelong and Central Coast. There are some other towns and areas available. You can email Contact Us with your town and we can do a service area check. For those areas without a service number, remember you can keep your existing number and/or choose a local DID in an are where friends and family call you from, so they are charged a local call from their standard telephone provider. Of course, if they also use Exetel VoIP it will be a free call.

We believe these are the lowest 3G data plans in Australia. And with plans offering up to 10Gb you will be hard pressed to find better value. For a customer who wants a broadband internet service for browsing, email and limited file downloading with total monthly downloads and uploads of less than 1,000 megabytes (approximately 50% of all users of Exetel's ADSL broadband services) then it is a very low cost service (less than $20.00 a month) that has the ability to further lower a household's communication costs via VoIP (which requires no telephone line and which provides Australia wide landline calls at 10 cents per call).
All prices include GST.

If you are using an Exetel “Naked” ADSL2 service then no ‘telephone’ line is required to use VoIP.
If you use the Exetel ADSL2 service the telephone line required for ADSL2 is included in the ADSL2 monthly access charge
To use a VoIP service you will need either a stand alone ATA or an
ADSL modem with an ATA capability built in to it. If you are thinking
of buying a new ADSL2 capable modem and/or a new ATA, SeeknBuy is
currently offering the Netcomm NB9WMAXX at a very attractive price - click here for details. This is the same modem we use ourselves, so we know it is good!
The advantages of the NB9WMAXX (or any other manufacturer's similarly specified product) is that it provides all the required functions in one 'box' with only one power outlet required and reduces cabling to the minimum. Its major plus is that it allows you to use your current telephone handset (and current telephone number) to receive calls while you use the same handset to make calls using VoIP. In the event that the VoIP service/ADSL service becomes unavailable for any reason you continue to use your current handset to make calls via the standard telephone service without the need to plug/unplug anything.
To allow you to use your current PSTN handset to make and receive standard PSTN calls you will need a dual port adaptor that plugs in to your ADSL modem to access your VoIP service as well as remaining connected to your standard telephone service.
The current cost of the Netcomm V210P single port ATA sourced through SeeknBuy can be seen by clicking here.
Specifications of the V210P may be found by clicking here
If you would prefer to use your PC's sound card and a head set to make and receive VOIP calls you will need ´soft phone´ software from the provider of your choice.
Exetel recommends that the softphone software you select uses the G.729 codec. You may select free software that uses G.711 but be advised that you can only make outgoing calls. Incoming calls cannot be received.
The following features are supported by the Exetel VoIP service but whether or not they are usable by a customer will depend on the capabilities of the softphone or hardware selected by the customer.
